The Traditional and Futuristic Frida Kahlo
The “Frida Kahlo Traditional and Futuristic" mural can be found inside La Gran Plaza between entrances three and four next to the entrance of the Rio Bravo restaurant. This artwork of the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was created in 2019 with acrylic paints and protective sealant by muralist Jorge Rodriguez. The mural seeks to show a mixture of artistic styles such as realism, muralist, and polygonal. According to the artist, the idea of this mural was to preserve the tradition and essence of Frida Kahlo with her serape, her chimp pet, the papel picado, and the butterfly.
Frida Kahlo is most known for her self-portraits, her pain and passion, and bold, vibrant colors. Kahlo is celebrated in Mexico for her attention to Mexican and indigenous culture and by the feminist movement for her illustration of the female experience and form.
